From Umar Dankano, Yola

The Nigerian Army special operation battalion in collaboration with the Joint Task Force (JTF) has gunned down the two major Boko Haram suspects, Abubakar Zakariya’u and Muhammadu Bama, who have ransom of N10 million each placed on them by the Federal Government.
The Battalion Commander of the operations, Lt. Col. Beydi Markus Martins, told newsmen yesterday at the operational base of the JTF in Mubi, Adamawa state, that the two wanted men were shot by soldiers during a bloody exchange of gun fire in the North-east state’s major commercial town.
“The two were eliminated in the process of the encounter while a number of the JTF sustained injuries”, Lt. Col. Martins said.
He explained that soldiers trailed the suspects while they were on their way to Wukari, in Taraba state, for an operation.
“The JTF monitored them from their base in Borno state until they were nabbed in Mubi, Adamawa state”, he stressed.
He also disclosed the arrest of other suspected Boko Haram members, five of who were paraded by the battalion while some were still being interrogated for the authenticity and level of their involvement in the insurgency.
The military officer also disclosed that those paraded yesterday were arrested last week when they attacked a Bureau De Change at the Mubi International Market and carted away money in both Nigerian and foreign currencies.
However, some of the currencies recovered by the JTF, were yesterday handed to the chairman of the Bureau De Change in the town.
The suspects, according to Martins, had used Russian AK47 guns in their operations.
Other items recovered by the JTF from the terrorists included 485 live ammunition, 28 magazines, Dane guns, bows and arrows, axes, cutlasses and rocket propeller charger, among others.
Martins commended the people of Mubi for their cooperation and support without which, he said, the achievements recorded by JTF could not have been possible.
It would be recalled that on November 23, last year, the Federal Government y declared a N290 million ransom for anyone who could assist to locate the leader of the sect, Imam Abubakar Shekau and 18 other commanders of the group.
The JTF headquarters, which made the declaration in a press statement, said the 19 leaders were wanted over the spate of bombings and killings in the North-east geopolitical zone of the country.
The JTF’s list comprised five members of the Shurra Committee (the highest decision-making body of the sect) and 19 Boko Haram commanders.
Those affected included Imam Abubakar Shekau (N50 million); Habibu Yusuf (a.k.a Asalafi), N25 million; Khalid Albarnawai (N25 million); Momodu Bama (N25 million); and Mohammed Zangina (N25 million).
The sect’s commanders’ list were Abu Saad (N10 million); Abba Kaka (N10 million); Abdulmalik Bama (N10 million); Umar Fulata (N10 million); Alhaji Mustapha (Massa) Ibrahim (N10 million); Abubakar Suleiman-Habu (a.k.a Khalid) N10 million; Hassan Jazair N10 million; Ali Jalingo (N10 million); Alhaji Musa Modu (N10 million); Bashir Aketa (N10 million); Abba Goroma (N10 million); Ibrahim Bashir (N10 million); Abubakar Zakariya (N10 million); and Tukur Ahmed Mohammed (N10 million).
