There was a low turn-out at the town hall meeting called by ASUU on Thursday at the Mapo Hall in Ibadan.<\/p>\n
Only a few residents,\u00a0 members\u00a0 of ASUU, activists and\u00a0 journalists were at the\u00a0 forum which was called to senstise people on the on-going strike.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the forum, Dr Ademola Aremu, the National Treasurer of the union, said\u00a0 the\u00a0 education sector remains critical\u00a0 to the\u00a0 nation\u2019s development.<\/p>\n
\u201c I want the Federal Government to move fast to end the 42-day-old\u00a0 ASUU strike so that the students can return to their studies,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The unionist\u00a0 said\u00a0 ASUU members were at\u00a0 Mapo Hall\u00a0 to drum up support from the public on the condition of the\u00a0 education sector.<\/p>\n
Also speaking, Dr Olusegun Ajiboye, ASUU Chairman, University of\u00a0 Ibadan branch, called on\u00a0 Nigerians to support the campaign for better funding of\u00a0 universities.<\/p>\n
\u201cEducation is the bedrock of the nation\u2019s development through capacity training,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He called on\u00a0 government to sustain the dialogue with ASUU with a view to ending the strike. (NAN)<\/p>\n
