The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Olu Abolurin, has said that any act leading to an accidental discharge of gun-fire by an officer of the NSCDC is a capital offense

Abolurin made this assertion on Thursday in Lagos through a representative, Mr Laggard Osemwigie, the Assistant Commandant-General, Zone A of the company during a passing out parade for 146 NSCDC officers, trained by the Nigerian Army in arms handling and other combatant drilling.

“Accidental discharge is a capital offence. In NSCDC, there here should be nothing like accidental discharge. You have been trained on arms handling, this should guide you in the discharge of your duties.” Abolurin stated.

The Commandant General, who commended the army and the Lagos Government for their assistance, however, requested more help from the State Government.

Also at the event, the Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola was represented by his Special Adviser on Security Matters, retired Major Tunde Panox and described the job of the NSCDC as noble and commendable for securing government property.

Fashola urged the officers to serve the interest of the people, saying that they should not aid crime where ever they were posted to, stressing the need for synergy among security agencies.
