The Federal Government has approved the establishment of a border patrol corps and the creation of additional border posts for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).<\/p>\n

The approval is contained in a letter with reference number DPARA\/\/FMOI\/0032\/TI\/51, signed by the Director of Paramilitary Services Department, Mr Keftin Amugaon, on behalf of the Minister of Interior.<\/p>\n

The letter addressed, to the Comptroller General of Immigration, Mr David Parradang, was in response to his request for the establishment of the border patrol corps.<\/p>\n

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that, Parradang, upon his appointment as the NIS comptroller general in July, had sought for the approval of the Minister of Interior,Mr Abba Moro, to establish the corps.<\/p>\n

Parradang had explained that the corps would enable the effective and holistic management of borders.<\/p>\n

While promising vigorous patrol of the country\u2019s porous borders, he had stressed the need to overhaul the border structure, to enable the service effectively curb the menace of illegal immigrants.<\/p>\n

He said the service would take concrete steps to safeguard the national frontiers and make the country\u2019s borders secured.<\/p>\n

The comptroller, who complained of shortage of man power in the service, had however said the available personnel would be used to cover the vast borders.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
