•Group divided over Ime-Obi meeting

The lingering crisis in the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex socio-cultural organisation of Igbo people assumed another dimension Friday as leaders and prominent members of the body were divided on whether or not to attend today’s Ime-Obi (caucus) meeting scheduled to hold today at its secretariat in Enugu.

Saturday Sun gathered that the invitation for the meeting circulated via text messages by the Ohanaeze secretary, Dr. Joe Nwogu started generating ripples among Igbo leaders with some urging all concerned to disregard the text message, shun the meeting and go about their normal businesses.

A chieftain of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Secretary of the 2013 Ohanaeze electoral committee, Prince Richard Ozubu urged Ndigbo to disregard the purported meeting, adding that the body has no leadership and as such no one has the mandate to summon an Ime-Obi meeting.

Ozobu disclosed that four months after the final report of the reconciliation committee set up by the South East Governors/Elders forum on Ohanaeze crisis was submitted, Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State is yet to comply with what the governors mandated him to do in order to resolve the Ohanaeze impasse.

He revealed that Governor Obi was asked to draw a list of Ime-Obi members for a meeting of the caucus where their (governors) recommendation for conduct of fresh election of national executives of Ohanaeze would be tabled and a new electoral committee drawn for the organisation to move forward, regretting, however, that Governor Obi is yet to do that.

Ozobu wondered why an Ime-Obi meeting should now be called today by a faction in the dispute, when all parties in the Ohanaeze imbroglio had agreed to suspend further activities until the final determination of the crisis that emanated from the January 12, 2013 national election of Ohanaeze.

“The governors have deliberated on the report of the Ben Obi-led reconciliation committee and I was reliably informed that the governors recommended for a new electoral committee to be set up and Ime-Obi to be summoned for a new election and that has not been done.
