The Director General of Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State, Mr. Sina Awelewa, has appealed to opposition parties in the state to patronise the broadcast station.

Awelewa said this in an interview with journalists after a meeting with freelance broadcasters and advert canvassers in Ado Ekiti on Saturday.

Awelewa, who recently assumed office as the DG said he was surprised that politicians from opposition parties had continued to shun the government-owned station despite assurances given them that their events would be covered and jingles and announcement aired.

He stated that BSES was ranked among one of the best stations in the South-West in a recent ranking released by an agency.

He said, “I am surprised that members of opposition parties have continued to shun BSES. I assured them but they have refused to come. The station is owned by the state and not any political party. They are welcome and in fact, I am urging them to come. We don’t belong to any political party, their events will be well covered while jingles and announcement will be aired provided they do not violate the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation code.”

He said the fear of the members of opposition parties might have stemmed from the practice in the past but Awelewa said Governor Kayode Fayemi was desirous of seeing adverts of opposition parties on the state broadcasting stations.
