The Federal Government has disclosed that Ethiopian Airlines has been given the go-ahead to commence international flight operations to the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu following the upgrade of the airport to an international airport.<\/p>\n

Disclosing this at the weekend in Abuja, Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, said she had already written President Goodluck Jonathan informing him of the airlines\u2019 inaugural flight, which is reportedly on the\u00a027th of August 2013.<\/p>\n

She said the airport\u2019s designation as an international airport was part of the aviation master plan of the present administration to give every zone in the country the opportunity to grow its full potentials in economic and social development.<\/p>\n

The new development now gives an alternative to passengers in the East, who no longer need to travel abroad, via Lagos or Abuja.<\/p>\n

On his part, General Manager, Corporate Communication, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Yakubu Dati, said President Jonathan\u2019s administration had fulfilled his promise of giving every part of the country equal opportunity to develop and realise its dreams.<\/p>\n

He stressed that the vision of former Vice President, Dr Alex Ekwueme \u00a0in designing and building the\u00a0Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, when he was only 26, is now being fulfilled.<\/p>\n

According to him: \u201cThis Minister of Aviation has shown her determination to actualise the goals of the aviation master plan which the Jonathan administration has pegged its transformation agenda which objectives include giving every part of the country and every citizen the opportunity to grow to his full potential.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the international flight operations at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, a novel opportunity has been given to the people of the South East zone to expand their business horizon without stress and the inconveniences of having to travel far to catch international flights.\u201d<\/p>\n
