Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, SMEDAN, has rewarded winners of the 2013 Students for Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship, SAGE, World Cup with N500, 000.<\/p>\n

Director-General of SMEDAN, Alhaji Bature Masari, presented the gift to students of Junior Secondary School, JSS, Jikwoyi, Abuja and International School, University of Calabar, ISUC, Calabar, who won the cup.<\/p>\n

Nigeria, represented by JSS, Jikwoyi and UCIS, Calabar won the prestigious SAGE World Cup 2013 competition which featured competitors from eight other countries like the USA, Russia, China, Singapore, Canada South Africa, Great Britain and Ghana.<\/p>\n

The SAGE World Cup is an international entrepreneurship competition where teenage entrepreneurs from around the world showcase their innovative business and community service projects to a panel of judges.<\/p>\n

The competition has two major categories which include Socially-Responsible Business, SRB, and Social Enterprise Business, SEB.<\/p>\n

Nigeria, represented by the Junior Secondary School Jikwoyi, Abuja took the lead in the SEB category while China came second as South Africa came third and Ghana took the fourth position.<\/p>\n

Masari said the award was to serve as a catalyst to other students and youths in general in the promotion and the development of entrepreneurship in the country.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cNigeria is experiencing a serious problem in terms of unemployment; it is only by encouraging entrepreneurship that we can tackle the challenge to the creation of wealth and jobs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we are introducing will be sustained and whoever that goes to the SAGE and win first or second will be encouraged by this kind of cash award.\u201d<\/p>\n

The SMEDAN boss therefore presented the sum of 300, 000 to JSS Jikwoyi for taking the lead in the SEB category while N200, 000 was presented to UCIS for coming second in the SRB category.<\/p>\n

The Africa Coordinator of SAGE, Mr. Agwu Amogu, commended SMEDAN for its support for the students and said the money would be used to promote the development of entrepreneurship in their schools.<\/p>\n
