Atraditional ruler in Enugu State has called for stronger relationship with the Nigeria Police in order to curb crime in the state.<\/p>\n

The traditional ruler of Ibagwa Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Emmanuel Ugwu, said the new relationship between communities and the police is aimed at getting the monarchs more involved in knowing the character of residents in their domains.<\/p>\n

Igwe Ugwu, said that if the communities can vouch for their residents and report suspects to the police, then crime would be reduced in the state, even as he proposed data capture of residents in every community.<\/p>\n

The monarch, who is also the state chairman committee on security for traditional rulers in the state, described the relationship between the police command and traditional rulers as cordial.<\/p>\n

According to the monarch, there was need for the police and traditional rulers to synergize in order to reduce the incidences of crime and criminality, since the perpetrators do not drop from the sky but live in the neighbourhood.<\/p>\n

In his response, the Commissioner of Police, Adamu Abubakar Mohammed, thanked the monarch for all his security support which has helped the command immensely and solicited for more cooperation to make the entire domain safe and secured.<\/p>\n

In a related development, the Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police has commenced investigations into an alleged incident where a tree allegedly being felled by one Everest Okolo killed one charity Nevo of Ifite Mmaku in Awgu Local Government Area.<\/p>\n

It was gathered that the deceased allegedly met her untimely death as she was going to the farm with her husband when suddenly a tree fell on her.<\/p>\n
