A non-governmental organization, Kiara College in collaboration with the Society against Prostitution and Child labour in Nigeria (SAP-CLAN) yesterday gave a two days training programme to social development workers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to the President of the NGO, ND Ezenwa said the essence of the training to give a social care practices through communication and to also learn more on how to give care and support to their various clients on the field.
He said: “We are running a programme on social care practices through communication and how to make a change to SAP- CLAN; we taught them on how to communicate because communication is the avenue for one to make a change and today we did the actual thing which is care and support”.
He explained that, a social work is something that should be allowed in churches and mosques to deal with and even the women affairs and social development.
“We have traveled to some countries to like Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, and Gambia. We did some research in community health care works, before we came to Nigeria so we are trying to put it into practices what we gained in other countries”, He said.
He further explained: “Working with human beings is more challenging because human beings are dynamic, it’s important that a social worker is fully equipped, so for us to achieve anything in this sector, these social workers need to be trained. It’s our own little contribution to the society”.
Also the Coordinator of SAP-CLAN, Mrs. Grace Adogo , said the training was very essential to them, because they deal with social issues, “We feel we should periodically update our staff on the new method of dealing with social issues” .
“Part of the things we were taught was how to communicate with social care for children and young persons and then how to promote active support, now we have learnt new tactics of handling social issues”, She said.
The Director of Social Welfare in FCT, Mrs. Folashade O. Ayileka , also lauded that training, stating that this will go a long way in assisting all social workers in FCT and outside FCT in achieving their set goals.
