Delta state governor Emmanuel Uduaghan today noted that over the high rate of youth unemployment was due to over dependence on an oil economy .
The governor who said the negative side of an oil economy remains a threat to national devolopment stressed the need for a concerted by all stakeholders to tap new avenues beyond oil.
While delivering a speech at the ongoing Editors Conference with the theme: Nigeria beyond oil: Role of the Editor, Uduaghan said his administration, in anticipation, is\u00a0 already looking towards agriculture, micro credit schemes and revival of moribund industries.
He added that the full reactivation of the Warri port.
He advised Editors to join in the effort for a non oil economy drive through adequate information about government programmes.
Earlier, secretary to government of the federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim advised Nigerians to brace up for the transition from an oil economy to a non oil economy.
He urged the media to highlight the challenges of transiting\u00a0 and the need for Nigerians to appreciate the efforts of the Jonathan administration to fine tune policies that will cushion the effects of moving to a non oil economy.
“Duty calls on the media and the greatest role of the editor is that he must remain a good patriot, a person of great reasoning and judgement”, he said.
In his keynote address, Chairman of the Dangote\u00a0 Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, advised government to provide the necessary infrastructure to encourage industrialists .
Represented by Mr Joseph Makoju, the industrialist also called for the development of human capital through skills acquisition schemes to encourage\u00a0 private initiatives and industrialization.<\/p>\n
