* Accuses APGA, Anambra govt of plot to rig polls

The Anambra State Executive Committee of the National Conscience Party, NCP, yesterday expressed its readiness to produce local government chairmanship candidates and a credible governorship candidate among the retinue of aspirants who will emerge victorious during the October local government and the November 16 governorship elections respectively in the state.

The state chairman of the party, Sir Peter Okala, who disclosed this in Onitsha, yesterday, shortly after the state executive council meeting, said the NCP will publicly announce the aspirants on September 2, during the state primaries.

Flanked by the state secretary of the party, Barrrister Chibuike Nwabueze; the state legal adviser, Barrister Anthony Orunkoya, among other state executive committee members of the party, Okala disclosed that the party had already screened four credible gubernatorial aspirants, while more have indicated interests to vie under the party’s platform, at both the local government and state levels.

His words: “We are going into Anambra Government House with all sense of responsibility because as our name implies, many people are yawning for a party with conscience, having become tired of past leaders who have no conscience and who have politicised everything in governance.

“The message of our party is clear and direct and without bias, just like the founding father of the party, late Gani Fawehimni, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, whose spirit is still alive, Anambra State has no course to worry as NCP is now sending a message of hope by addressing the wounds inflicted on our people by political desperadoes”.

He accused the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA and Anambra State government of plotting to rig the local government and gubernatorial elections by flouting the same law the state government made, directing all the aspirants in the state to pay an unspecified huge amount of money into the state government coffers before one could be allowed to paste posters in any part of the state.

He noted that investigation had shown that the same government that gave such directive had gone ahead to allow APGA governorship and local government chairmanship aspirants to paste and erect posters and bill boards in all nooks and crannies of the state without paying the specified amount of money into the state government coffers, as directed, probably because APGA is the ruling party in the state.

Describing the development as undemocratic, callous, wicked, selfish, lawless and anti-people for a government to make a law and flout the same law, in terms of favouritism, the NCP warned Governor Peter Obi to allow for a level playing ground, since according to him, the era of people coming into Government House through the window is over as Anambrarians are now wiser and in a dire need of a government with conscience.
