This weekend across Lagos, the season six of the MTN Lagos Street Soccer Championship will kick off with more than 900 teams participating.

According to the Secretary General of the Local Organising Committee, Deji Aladegbemi, teams in the men’s event will kick start this season, while others would continue next weekend.

For this season, the men’s teams were drawn into 138 groups with each group consisting of four or five teams.

The female teams were drawn into 13 groups while the U-15 teams were drawn into 54 groups.

“I think we are excited with the response from schools for the U-15 category and for us, this is a good development even as we hope to identify talents that we will groom for the state and the country at large. This year’s tournament will be unique because we are planning to make it more exciting,” Aladegbemi said.

“The 2013 edition will offer a unique platform for teams to showcase mastery of the game within their respective wards and local governments in the early rounds of competition. Season six will be played in the following phases: round 1, 2, 3, 64, 32, 16, 8 and the finale.”
