Huhuonline.com Vindicated! As Assembly Affirm Plot to Impeach Amaechi

Published

on

The leadership and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have raised alarm over plot by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to impeach Governor Ameachi. Thus corroborating huhuonline.com’s publication of 18th April 2013, titled “PDP Fine-tunes Plans to Impeach Amaechi… As NSA Quizzes Ibim Semenitari” (http://bit.ly/13kM3gB).

A press statement issued on Tuesday by Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Amachree, Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, said:

“The leadership and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly wish to bring to the notice of the people of Rivers State and Nigerians some of the dangerous moves by the Felix Obuah-led PDP to cause general chaos and confusion in Rivers State.

“We have been reliably informed that a fake mace has been smuggled into the state to enable FIVE members of the house hold an emergency session even when the House adjourned sine die on Tuesday, April 23, 2013.

“The Abuja plan on ground is to falsely impeach the Rt. Hon. Speaker and the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and create confusion through varied responses, which they hope will make the state ungovernable and provide them with some kind of warped basis to introduce Emergency Rule in Rivers State.

“Furthermore, there are strong indications that some persons have been detailed exclusively to create systemic collapse of security in the state, putting lives and property in danger.

“This is undemocratic, unacceptable and a complete violation of the mandate that the good people of Rivers State have vested on us. We call on the good people of Rivers State to remain Calm, watchful and law abiding as the scenario unfolds.”

Abnitio, PDP had a two-prong approach to unseat Gov. Ameachi. As huhuonline.com published previously, our findings reveal that the plot, which is to commence soon, will be a two-prong approach. The first is to rally all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and offer them money to impeach incumbent Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Amachree Otelemaba Asari-Toru, who is considered weak but pro-Ameachi, and install someone from the anti-Amaechi camp.

The second approach is that the anti-Amaechi Speaker will institute impeachment proceedings against Governor Amaechi over bogus allegations. Once Amaechi is impeached, his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, who is a surrogate of Prince Uche Sekondis, will be sworn in.

Nyeson Wike’s anger, Huhuonline.com learnt, stems from Amaechi’s refusal to back his senatorial ambition, preferring Senator Magnus Abe, who sources reveal is being groomed to succeed Rotimi Amaechi.

Nyeson Wike, incumbent minister of state for education feels he was not adequately compensated for his role during Amaechi Rotimi and Celestine Omehia’s legal squabbles.

Nyeson Wike, close ally of Justice Katsina Alau, is alleged to have masterminded the behind-the-scene maneuvers of the Supreme Court judgment that brought Amaechi into office.

However, after our publication, all the pretenders and contenders from Rivers State who have ass to grind with Amaechi  and the PDP leadership decided to change their strategy.

Consequently, the state chairman of the PDP was mandated to suspend majority of the members of the State House of Assembly who are considered to be loyal to Gov. Amaechi but their ultimate target remains the impeachment of Amaechi.

Huhuonline.com learnt that the crux of this wholesale suspension exercise, which be lifted on date yet-to-be-announced is designed to break ranks within Amaechi’s followers and create new loyalties.

Huhuonline.com reported that five members of the River State House Assembly have been mobilized by the Presidency and PDP leadership to ensure that Amaechi is impeached are Hon. Okey Chinda,(Obio Okpo Local government Area), Hon. Martin Amahule Chike (Obio/A kpo 1 LGA), Evan Bipi (Ogu /Bolo LGA), Victor Ihunwo (Port Harcourt Area LGA), Hon. Kelechi  Godspower Worgu (Omuma LGA).

Little wonder these five members of the State House of Assembly were spared in the suspension order as announced by Felix Obuah. Nevertheless, if the Abuja Plan succeeds, Hon. Okey Chinda is the PDP anointed speaker in waiting who will unseat Gov. Amaechi.

Kano Transfers Over 1,000 Almajiris To Different States Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic

Published

on

The Kano State Government on Saturday said it has transferred 1,098 ‘almajiris’ to different states of the country.

The commissioner for local government, Murtala Garo, disclosed this while presenting a report before the state’s task force on COVID-19 at the government house, Kano.

Almajiris are children who are supposed to be learning Islamic studies while living with their Islamic teachers. Majority of them, however, end up begging on the streets of Northern Nigeria. They constitute a large number of Nigeria’s over 10 million out-of-school children.

Mr Garo said the Kano government transported 419 almajiris to Katsina, 524 to Jigawa and 155 to Kaduna. He said all of them tested negative for coronavirus before leaving the Kano State.

Despite the coronavirus test done in Kano for the almajiris, the Jigawa government earlier said it would quarantine for two weeks all the almajiris that recently arrived from Kano.

Mr Garo said another 100 almajiris scheduled to be taken to Bauchi State also tested negative to COVID-19.

In a remark, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje said the COVID-19 situation in Kano was getting worse. He appealed for a collaborative effort to curtail the spread of the virus in the state.

Mr Ganduje, who commended residents for complying with the lockdown imposed in the state, said the decision was taken to halt the spread of the virus.

Kano State, as of Saturday night, has 77 coronavirus cases, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

The decision to transfer the Kano almajiris is part of the agreement reached between Northern governors that almajiris in each state be transferred to their states of origin.

However, even before the latest agreement by the governors, the Kano government had been transferring almajiris to other states and neighbouring countries after it banned street begging in the state, most populous in Northern Nigeria.

Despite the transfers, however, no concrete step has been taken to ensure such children do not return to Kano streets as there is freedom of movement across Nigeria although interstate travel was recently banned to check the spread of the coronavirus.

Boko Haram Attacks: Buhari Summons Urgent Meeting Of Service Chiefs

Published

Ostensibly alarmed by the latest killings of dozens of soldiers by Boko Haram insurgents, President Muhammadu Buhari has summoned an urgent meeting of Service Chiefs to find ways to stop the trend.

He has also dispatched the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan Ali, to the neighbouring Republic of Chad for an urgent meeting with President Idris Deby and his defence counterpart.

Knowledgeable sources said in Abuja on Friday that the president is worried by on the deterioration of security situation on the Nigeria – Chad Border that has led to the recently increased Boko Haram terrorism in the area.

The sources which did not want to be named in Abuja said: “Nigeria has a Chad  problem in the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) put together to secure the Lake Chad basin areas and repeal the Boko Haram terrorist attacks against all the countries neighbouring the Lake.”

The sources noted that Chad is believed to be having their own internal security challenges and this has reportedly led to their pulling away their own troops manning their own border around Lake Chad,  saying: “That lacuna is being exploited by the Boko Haram terrorists, who go in and out of Nigeria, Niger and Cameroon to launch terrorist acts.  This is a clear illustration of the fact that terrorism is beyond national borders.”

When contacted, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, confirmed that the Defence Minister is going to Chad but said he is unaware of the purpose.

Meanwhile, the military authorities are said to be in the process of identifying the families of the latest victims with a view to making contact with them.

Credible sources revealed that it is the reason the president is yet to make any pronouncement on the matter.

“The President has called an urgent meeting with the Service Chiefs, as well as the fact that families of the latest victims of the Boko Haram are being identified and contacts made before a government pronouncement on the tragic attacks. This, it is understood, is the reason for the silence of the government over the incident,” the source said.
