Rizespor of Turkey new import, Nigeria’s Godfrey Oboabona would earn the sum of 450,000 euros a year an estimated €1.8 million (equivalent of N389 million) when his contract runs out in the summer of 2017.
The former Sunshine Stars of Akure was unveiled by his new club in an elaborate ceremony Thursday after passing his medical that was conducted Wednesday in Istanbul, Turkey.
Oboabona has been the toast of a series of European clubs but the move to the Turkish outfit was brokered by an influential 28-year old Turkish agent, Mustafa Sezgin, who has now broken his silence on the details of the contract.
Including performance related allowances, Sunshine Stars are expected to net 650,000 Euros from the sale of their prized jewel, who had been on the wish list of clubs in France (Lille), Ukraine (Metallurg Donetsk) and Spain ( Racing Santander) following his exploits at the last African Cup of Nations.
While disclosing details of the deal, Sezgin who also represents another Nigerian international, Kalu Uche said it was during the transfer process that Oboabona’s parent club inserted a clause in the terms of contract.
According to Sezgin, “Oboabona will earn 450,000 euros every year in the four- year deal, while Rizespor will pay Sunshine Stars 650,000 euros. During negotiations, Sunshine Stars inserted a 20 percent sell on clause in Oboabona’s contract.’’
The 23-year old central defender was part of the all-conquering Super Eagles team that won the 2013 AFCON trophy and was instrumental in helping Nigeria secure a maiden ticket to take part at next year’s Africa Nations championships; a tournament he is now ineligible to feature in owing to the latest development.
Oboabona has been named by Super Eagles manager, Stephen Keshi in his roster for the World Cup qualifying fixture against Malawi on 7 September.
Oboabona is expected to feel at home at Rizespor as his compatriot; Kalu is already established with the modest Turkish outfit.
