The Lagos state government has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court to challenge the acquittal of Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State, General Sani Abacha by the Court of appeal.

A statement by the Lagos state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade Ipaye Tuesday noted that state seeks to overturn the judgement by the appeal court to free Al-Mustapha and the co-accused Alhaji Lateef Shofolahan over the murder of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola.

The Attorney General who refused to disclose the grounds on which the state was challenging the judgment of the appeal court, said the state took the decision after a month of thorough evaluation of the judgment.

According to Ipaye, the state found “enough and very good grounds for appeal.”
